3-Aug-08 Helping Poor Student to rebuild her house at Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya

One day, a 19 years-old secondary upper six student from SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 suddenly cried in her class when her teacher was teaching. Tears just kept on dropping from her eyes. Her recent performance in studies has deteriorated drastically.

Her father, 59, half-blinded is jobless whereas her mother, 62 has mentality disorder. There is totally no income for her family. Staying in a rented wooden house situated at Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya costs them RM150 monthly house rental fee which was paid by Government Aid Money.

The story of the poor student spread to DC Chong Nam Fah. Ideas that immediately appeared in his mind was to help the poor student through Lions Club.

On 3-Aug-08, Lions Club of Stampin-Pending Kuching members leaded by DC Chong Nam Fah went to help the poor student to rebuild her rented wooden house which is situated at Kpg. Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya. Her kitchen floor, house front corridor were changed with new water-proof wooden board. A new gas stove was bought to replace the corroded gas stove. Their old mattresses were replaced with new one. Total of RM700 was raised from members and public for this project. Our club will also help her to get scholarship for her studies and helping in her employment after finished studies. This project will be treated as one of our club’s main service project and long term project.

24-Aug-2008: Outing to Kampung Sait

Lions Club of Stampin-Pending Kuching with it’s sponsoring Leo Club of SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 and New Century Lions Club of Kuching Emerald have successfully jointly organized an outing to Kampung Sait which is situated inside a beautiful virgin jungle inside Borneo Highlands on 24-Aug-08. We have to drive to Kampung Bengoh and leave our vehicles there as no vehicles can get through the jungle tracks.

The walking journey which lasted for two hours for one way was full of adventurous. We have to cross three very challenging suspension bridges which were fully made of strong bamboos stretching more than 60 feet height and was tied up using wires and cables. Along the journey, we have met up with many villagers as that is the only way they are connected to the outer places.

A fellowship with villagers was held at Kampung Sait’s Mini Hall when we arrived. All the villagers and children are very friendly and happy during the fellowship. Through this outing, we have the opportunities to appreciate the treasure of nature, having a great fellowship with villagers and let the Leos to understand the living conditions of poor villagers so that they will appreciate on what they have.
